TT Group Visits the St Mungo’s Construction Skills Programme
On Thursday, 8th August, a team from TT Group, had the privilege of visiting the St Mungo’s Construction Skills Programme. This initiative is part of St Mungo’s ongoing efforts to combat homelessness across the UK, by equipping those who have experienced homelessness with the skills and confidence needed to rebuild their lives. TT Group makes an annual donation in support of the programme. Our visit took place at St Mungo’s Euston training centre, which has been operational since 2008.
Steve Huggins Construction Skills Manager at St Mungo’s, and his dedicated team were our hosts for the day. They introduced us to the site’s facilities and walked us through the various components of the training programme.
Building Skills and Confidence
Course participants can learn everything from painting and wall papering, to fitting locks and dry lining. The courses are accredited, meaning that clients receive an official qualification upon completion. These qualifications not only help boost clients’ confidence, but also significantly enhances their employability. Through partnerships with various construction firms, St Mungo’s helps clients secure jobs in the industry, providing opportunities to transition from training to employment.
The impact of the programme is evident in its numbers. Over the past year 148 clients have engaged with the Construction Skills service.
Personalised Support and Future Opportunities
One of the most impressive aspects of the programme is the personalised support each client receives. Course timings are adapted for an individual’s needs, and Sandra and Carolina, St Mungo’s professional coaches, play a vital role in the process, supporting wellbeing, connecting clients with employers, and helping them obtain additional qualifications.
The programme is also highly adaptable, responding to the ever-changing needs of the construction industry. For instance, recognising a shortage of electricians, the programme has expanded to include electrical training. This ensures that clients are equipped with the most relevant skills, making them valuable assets in the job market.
Continued Support from TT Group
TT Group has been a proud supporter of St Mungo's since 2011, contributing through various initiatives such as Christmas collections, training sessions at St Mungo's recovery college, donations, and volunteering as part of Mitzvah Day. Our visit to the Construction Skills Programme only reinforced our commitment to this partnership.
In the words of Steve Huggins, Construction Skills Manager at St Mungo’s, “Our construction skills programme is life changing for our clients. It's not until someone is given the opportunity to try that they believe change is possible. This course gives our clients a supported pathway away from homelessness for good”
Lisa Robotham, HR Director at TT Group, noted, “We also had the opportunity to visit the accommodation a group from TT decorated back in 2022 as part of Mitzvah Day. Experiencing firsthand the impact of our volunteering and donations was truly powerful, reminding us that our efforts contribute towards meaningful change in the lives of real people”.
Paul Disley Tindell, Director – Real Estate at TT Group added: “The dedication and passion of the St Mungo’s team are truly inspiring. We are proud to support this incredible programme which genuinely helps to rebuild lives”.
