TT Group given go ahead for redevelopment of Flowers Hill, Brislington, Bristol

TT Group’s plans to redevelop the government buildings complex on Flowers Hill and create up to 160 new homes have been approved by Bristol City Council’s planning committee.

The site, which includes the former offices of the Department for Work and Pensions and Driving Test Centre, was vacated in early 2021 leaving vacant office buildings which are dated, poor quality and unsuitable for modern working standards.

The outline planning permission will allow the brownfield site to be redeveloped to create new homes, including affordable units, open space, a children’s play area, and a landscaping scheme. Additionally, it will provide the opportunity to create a new pedestrian and cycle link between Flowers Hill and Hungerford Road. The investment will also deliver financial contributions to public transport improvements, including funds for the construction of an outbound bus lane on the A4 Bath Road.

The site includes the Bristol War Room, which has been abandoned for a number of years. This approval will allow the War Room to be re-used for commercial business or community use, whilst preserving its historical interest.
